Raising new plants
What a great weekend connecting with nature and community! We gathered at Marcus and Debbie’s beautiful Warwick property for an inspiring workshop with our President, Susan Birtles, who shared her expert tips on raising seedlings and preparing cuttings of Australian natives.
🌱 Key takeaways:
• Use fresh, well-draining seed mix and keep it lightly moist (not soggy).
• For tougher native seeds, try smoke, hot water or gentle scarification to trigger germination.
• When taking cuttings, select healthy, semi-hardwood growth, trim just below a node, and use rooting hormone to encourage strong roots.
• Keep cuttings in a humid, sheltered spot until established.
We wrapped up the morning with a delicious shared lunch and plenty of good conversation. Thanks to everyone who joined and helped grow our community - one native seedling at a time! 💚
